What is art therapy?
Long before art became something you had to be “good at” humans used visual expression to make sense of their experience and share their stories.
Nowadays, many of us learn that creativity is a talent you either have or don't have. People who identify as creative might learn that making art needs to look a specific way. The field of art therapy is built upon the belief that everyone is capable of creative expression, and that making something without pressure to do it "right" can help us access parts of ourselves that talking alone can’t always reach.
Art therapy combines art-making with psychotherapy, offering an evidence-based alternative to approaching healing, growth, and self-exploration.
Hi, I’m Amy!
I’m an art therapist and registered psychotherapist (qualifying) based in Toronto working with clients of all ages (5+).
I've been doing art therapy since February 2024, starting with an internship running a group for older women in long-term care, and I've been passionate about it ever since! Since then I've worked in hospital, public school, and private practice settings.
Research consistently shows that one of the biggest factors in whether therapy actually helps isn't the modality or the techniques — it's the relationship between you and your therapist, so that's where I put my focus. I want this to feel like a space where you can cry, laugh, ramble, make silly & strange art, and not have to perform.
I work from a trauma-informed lens with people navigating a variety of challenges, whether that's burnout, isolation & relationship struggles, loss of motivation, personal identity questions, or the weight of living through bigger systemic stuff that's genuinely difficult to carry.
In-person & virtual therapy
I currently offer in-person and virtual art therapy for children, teens and adults through Toronto Art Therapy Space located at 1604 Bloor St West in Toronto.
Standard fee: $160 per 50 minute session
